Latvia's President Vējonis to visit Italy and Vatican

From 23 to 24 April 2019, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis will visit Italy on an official visit, along with First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone.

During his official visit, the President of Latvia will meet with President of Italia Sergio Mattarella. During the meeting, they plan to discuss opportunities for further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries, cooperation within the European Union (EU) and NATO, as well as to discuss development in the EU Neighbourhood countries, according to a release from the Presidential Chancellery.

According to the agenda, President Vējonis will also take part in the opening of Latvia’s Days in Italy, a wide program of cultural and economic events in several Italian cities including Rome, Milan, and Venice which will run until the end of this year.

Vējonis will also participate in the opening of the Latvian-Italian Business Forum, where Latvian information and communication technology companies, as well as Italian entrepreneurs who have already started or are planning to start a business in Latvia, will be widely represented.

To conclude his official visit, Vējonis will address the audience during the presentation of the exhibition “Latvia and Italy: 100 Years of Friendship” to be held at the National Research Council in Rome.

But then he will make the very short trip to the Vatican on August 25 for an audience with Pope Francis and a meeting with the Secretary of State of the Holy See (equivalent to the position of Prime Minister) Cardinal Pierre Parolin.

Also during the visit, Vējonis will give an interview to the official media of the Holy See, Vatican Radio.
