On Thursday, February 11, voluntary vaccination against Covid-19 will start for the country's top officials, whose duties are related to ensuring the continuity of national security and the country's basic functions.

The Vaccination Project Bureau said that the small number of officials who are currently given the opportunity to vaccinate was strongly evaluated in the light of their responsibilities and their role in the management of national processes.

This week, the President of Latvia Egils Levits, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, assistants to the Saeima Speaker Dagmāra Beitnere-Le Galla and Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs, and Chairman of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee Rihards Kols will all be vaccinated.

In the coming days, former presidents of Latvia will also be able to receive vaccines against Covid-19: Guntis Ulmanis, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, Andris Bērziņš, Valdis Zatlers and Raimonds Vējonis.

Vaccination of top officials will start at the same time as vaccinations at social-care centers, using the same “AstraZeneca” vaccine.

This is taking place in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of 9 February.
