World sends Baltic Way congratulations

Congratulations poured in from many well-known figures and institutions August 23 as the Baltic states celebrated 30 years since the historic events of the Baltic Way.

The European Commission led the way. 

Incoming Commission President Ursula von der Leyen added her own personal message.

The United States embassy in Rīga uploaded a special video to its YouTube channel.

 

The United Kingdom's embassy also had a video, with ambassador to Latvia Keith Shannon giving a brief history lesson, along with the UK's other Baltic ambassadors.

Meanwhile the French embassy noted its participation in a flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument.

The Spanish embassy was there too and posted a message of congratulations.

LTV reported an eye-catching celebration by the famous Aerodium company, which simulates freefall skydiving.

And of course Latvia's president offered some thoughts of his own.
