The intention for the late-night release of the results was supposed to be a simultaneous publication of results from across the 27-member bloc, with voting continuing into Sunday night in some countries. But for Latvia, the long wait for something tangible from 20:00 on Saturday to 00:00 on Monday morning tended to create a sense of anticlimax rather than excitement.
At least the intervening hours had allowed turnout to be confirmed as 33.82%, only fractionally up on the 2019 turnout of 33.53%, suggesting intense advertising campaigns to urge participation had little effect.
As far as the results are concerned, Latvia's nine European Parliament mandates will be distributed as follows according to the provisional results:
New Unity (Jaunā Vienotība) – 2 seats (Valdis Dombrovskis, Sandra Kalniete)
National Alliance (Nacionālā apvienība) – 2 seats (Roberts Zīle, Rihards Kols)
Latvia First (Latvija pirmajā vietā) – 1 seat (Vilis Krištopans)
Harmony (Saskaņa) – 1 seat (Nils Ušakovs)
United List (Apvienotais saraksts) – 1 seat (Reinis Pozņaks)
Progressives (Progresīvie) – 1 seat (Mārtiņš Staķis)
For Latvia's Development (Latvijas attīstībai) -1 seat (Ivars Ijabs)
"APVIENOTAIS SARAKSTS - Latvijas Zaļā partija, Latvijas Reģionu Apvienība, Liepājas partija"
- 20744
- 2283
Thus it seems Latvia will send only one woman to Brussels among its nine MEPs.
New Unity took the lead with 25.07% of the voters' support, followed by National Alliance with 22.08%, For Latvian Development with 9.36%, United List (8.18%), Progressives (7.42%), Harmony (7.14%), and Latvia First (6.16%).
