Deadline day for political hopefuls

Take note – story published 5 years ago

August 7 is the final day for political parties to submit their candidate lists to the Central Electoral Commission (CVK) for participation in the Saeima elections to be held on October 6.

The doors of the CVK are due to close at 6 p.m. with several more parties expected to use the final day for submissions as a chance to grab some headlines. To submit a list, a party or association of parties must have at least 500 members and must pay a 1,400 euro security deposit.

By August 6, 14 parties and party associations had submitted candidate lists to the 13th Saeima elections, with more than 1,400 candidates included in their lists.

Friday August 10 will see the next step in the process take place with the CVK drawing lots to see which numbers will be assigned to the different parties with everyone hopeful of being assigned number 1.

When all the names and numbers are in, LSM will do a full round-up of the parties and their electoral chances.
