Latvia reacts to Trump election victory

Latvian officials offered congratulations to US President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday following his remarkable victory at the polls.

President Raimonds Vejonis said:

In a separate press statement, Vejonis said: "The United States of America's voters have made their choice. I congratulate the newly elected US President Donald Trump on his victory in the elections... We will continue to work together, ensuring both collective defense and the fight against terrorism, as well as other modern security challenges." 

Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis said:

However, MEP Artis Pabriks tweeted an image of the Statue of Liberty with its flame snuffed out.


Rig mayor Nils Usakovs said Trump had won fair and square in a democratic process after a "tough battle" and that the victory was a reminder to all politicians to take the views of ordinary people into account.
