Latvia's next election date decided

Latvia's next parliamentary elections will take place on Saturday, October 6, the Central Election Commission (CVK) confirmed January 24.

These will be the 13th Saeima elections to take place in Latvia's 100-year history.

The right to participate in the Saeima elections is for all citizens of Latvia who have reached the age of 18 on election day. Voters may vote in the Saeima elections at any polling station in Latvia or abroad, upon production of their passport.

On election day, polling stations will be open for voters from 7:00 to 20:00 .

Voters who can not get to the polling station on election day, can use the opportunity to cast their vote in advance during the three days before the election day on Wednesday, October 3, from 17:00 to 20:00, on Thursday, October 4, from 9:00 to 12:00, and on Friday, October 5, from 10:00 to 16:00.

Voters who, due to their state of health, can not attend the polling station can arrange for a proxy vote in advance and voters who are abroad during the election may vote at one of the polling stations abroad or apply for a postal vote from May 6 until September 14.

CANDIDATE LISTS

Submissions of the lists of candidates for the 13th Saeima elections will take place from July 18 to August 7, 2018.

A party submitting a candidate list to the Saeima elections must be established not later than one year before the Saeima elections, and must have at least 500 members. A security deposit of EUR 1,400 must be paid to the Central Election Commission deposit account on submission of the list.

The right to stand as a candidate in Saeima elections is for Latvian citizens who on the day of elections are over 21 years of age, if they are not subject to any of the restrictions specified in the Saeima Election Law.
