One Saeima candidate crossed out from list

On Friday, August 12, the Central Election Commission (CVK) decided to remove Toms Baltacis from the list of candidates from the political party association “Alliance for Latvia” in the Rīga constituency due to him being subject to the restriction of candidacy imposed by the Saeima election law for sanctioned persons.

This law provides that persons who have been punished for an intentional criminal offense cannot run for the Saeima elections, except those who have been rehabilitated or for whom the criminal record has been deleted or removed, said the CVK.

Baltacis' name will be found on the list because the election ballots are already in print, but the votes cast will not be counted, CVK Secretary Valdis Verners told Latvian Television.

The decision of the CVK may be appealed to the Administrative District Court within three working days from the date of its adoption.
