Riga elections get more funds

On Friday, August 21, it was decided at the meeting of the Riga City Council to grant additional funding to ensure the emergency elections of the Riga City Council.

To prevent COVID-19 spread, the emergency elections of the Riga City Council need additional equipment and protective equipment at polling stations.

It is therefore decided to grant an additional EUR 135 236 to the Riga City Election Commission.

Overall, EUR 188 195 is dedicated for the elections.

The purchase of stationery products amounts to EUR 7260, the purchase of household goods EUR 3201, while the purchase of personal protection and disinfectants is EUR 150 416, face covers, contact-free thermometers, a total of EUR 27 318.

15 political forces, who have submitted their lists of candidates, have applied for the Riga City Council's emergency elections.

In February this year, the Latvian Saeima voted to dismiss the Riga City Council. The extraordinary elections were originally planned for April but following the state of emergency the date was changed several times until it was set to August 29.
