Latvenergo will donate €200,000 to the preparation and development of the XXVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival, the government decided on Tuesday, June 13.

Previously Latvenergo planned to donate more than half a million euros to various projects. However, the government wants to eliminate these donation practices, so it allowed only one donation to the Song Festival.

The funds of the Latvenergo donation are planned to cover the costs of visual design and technical provision of the Song Festival, part of the costs of the scenography, productions, awards for the winners of contests, as well as documenting the free events of the Song Festival events which are not included in the Latvian Television program and broadcasting plans.

Latvenergo's donation will be used in full for the Song and Dance Festival. The donation is intended to be channeled to the “Festival Fund” foundation, which is a public benefit organization and supports important cultural events.

The Ministry of Culture shall be responsible for its efficient use.
