Prime Minister Evika Siliņa's Independence Day message

Dear citizens of Latvia. And all those whose hearts burn for Latvia – with its beautiful nature and wonderful people. Ours are all those who love Latvia and respect our common values : freedom, democracy and the national language.

On Independence Day, we celebrate the courage of the Latvian people to fight for their country. This determination has not disappeared – it just needs to be put to use, developing new, bold business ideas, not being afraid to compete at the global level, bravely resisting Russia's attempts to quench the thirst for freedom of other nations.

This year, many of us shed tears of emotion at the Song and Dance Festival, or watching the performance of our basketball and hockey players. These were the most striking events – but not the only ones – that reaffirmed the value of our country and the strength of our people.

Our society will not agree on every issue. But this is also part of our freedom. Therefore, let's not allow ourselves to get bogged down, sinking into the mire of small ideological squabbles. Let's go forward boldly and together. To build a country with a future in which our children and their children also see a place. A modern and humane future.

Congratulations on the 105th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia!
