Staķis gets penalty over work trip to hockey championship

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has imposed two administrative penalties totalling EUR 500 on former Rīga Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis (Progressives) for his mission to the World Hockey Championship in Tampere, Staķis said on the social site “X” on September 26.

One of the penalties in the amount of 250 euros has been received for issuing a travel order, while another penalty in the amount of 250 euros has been imposed for submitting travel expenses, Staķis said.

The former Mayor of Rīga has decided to pay the penalties “and move on.”

“The most important thing is that I have been acquitted in the section on compliance of business travel arrangements with the laws and regulations,” Staķis noted.

The inspection was carried out on the proposal of opposition deputy Viesturs Zeps (For Latvia's Development), mainly regarding Staķis' self-approved work trip to Tampere while the hockey championship was taking place. Staķis said he'd gone to Tampere on the invitation of Tampere's mayor.
