According to Latvia’s Embassy in Portugal, Vanaga took part in the solemn event together with the EU’s chief representative to Brazil Ana Paula Zacarias, members of Brazil’s National Congress and state government, other EU member-state ambassadors and consular heads, as well as Latvians residing in Brazil.
In remarks to the assembled guests, Vanaga listed Latvia’s recent accomplishments and benefits stemming from its membership in the EU. She outlined the priorities of the six-month Presidency and urged close cooperation in working towards its goals.
Ambassador Vanaga arrived on her official visit to Brazil on December 31 to stay until January 6. She represented Latvia at the inauguration ceremony of Brazil’s second-term President Dilma Rousseff, meeting also with Foreign Minister Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira on January 2.
She also met with members of the Brazilian-Latvian community organization founded in 1922 on Sunday, January 4 as well as with local government leaders from the state of Sao Paolo on Monday.
