Dace Ķezbere was elected as the head of the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) by its boards members on February 6, reported Latvian Radio.

Ķezbere is the last member of the previous board who has retained her position.

NEPLP recently got four new board members.

The board members also determined their areas of responsibility: Latvian Television will be overseen by Ieva Beitika; Latvian Radio by Ivars Āboliņš; commercial televisions by Gunta Līdaka; commercial radio by Patriks Grīva; while cable TV will be overseen by Ķezbere.

LSM will be overseen by the four NEPLP board members responsible for public media.

Līdaka will be responsible for inter-institutional cooperation and Beitika for international cooperation.

As reported, on January 19 the Latvian parliament approved new board members at the broadcast watchdog.

According to LETA, Līdaka is the executive director at Latvian Broadcasters Association; Āboliņš is a former editor at Latvian Television's Programming Department; Beitika is a lecturer at the University of Latvia; while Grīva is the founder of the beach.lv marketing company.

As well as acting as broadcast watchdog with the power to take action if illegal or inappropriate material is broadcast, NEPLP is also in overall charge of the funding of public broadcasting in Latvia, including the LSM news portals in Latvian, Russian and English.
