Former Central Election Commission chief Cimdars passes away

On Wednesday, October 20, at the age of 59, Arnis Cimdars, the former chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), passed away, Latvian Television reported.

According to LTV, he died following a Covid-19 infection. Cimdars was among the founders of the new political party "Latvia in first place" this summer. 

He was the head of the national electoral body from 1997 until 2019.
