On November 22, Prime Minister and negotiation leader Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity) will discuss the formation of the government with the President of State, Egils Levits.
On Wednesday, November 23, New Unity will meet with other potential coalition partners – the United List and the National Alliance – to present the first draft of the forthcoming government declaration.
Although the political forces involved in the negotiations acknowledge that progress has been made, a number of issues remain open. For example, state-paid services in health care and the issue of deputy ministers in the next government.
Edgars Tavars (United List) said that in general, there are no major contradictions in the drafting of the declaration and a new government could be formed by mid-December at the latest.
At the same time, the United List no longer insists on drafting another memorandum on the financial framework.
“We offered a second memorandum on the fiscal framework. The idea of a memorandum did not seem to be viable to colleagues. All right, the introduction or conclusion of the declaration should include indications of the financial opportunities that we can afford in an optimistic and pessimistic scenario. Either we include the possibility of reviewing the effectiveness of the various objectives. For example, in the field of health care, services do not deteriorate, while at the same time we do not want to take any action to lower wages,” Tavars said.
