The Saeima already supported the creation of the Ministry of Climate and Energy on December 1, 2022. The Minister for Energy and Climate is Raimonds Čudars.
The government determined that the following functions were transferred to the Ministry of Climate and Energy:
- from EM – energy policy area (excluding the area of maintenance and monitoring of petroleum reserves);
- from VARAM – the field of climate policy.
It is also stipulated that the performance of these functions will be covered by EM and VARAM budget resources respectively.
The MK order states that VARAM and EM should transfer 48.5 jobs to the Ministry of Climate and Energy, including the Department for Climate Change, the Department for Energy Market and Infrastructure, and the Department for Sustainable Energy Policy.
The draft order also provides for the transfer of the State-owned shares of the VARAM-held Environment Investment Fund Ltd to the new ministry.
