Government to decide on future weekend curfew Thursday

Take note – story published 3 years ago

The government plans to decide whether a curfew will have to be observed during upcoming weekends at a meeting February 11.

Since the end of December, a curfew from 22:00 to 5:00 has been in force in Latvia on weekends. Last weekend was formally the last one the rule was in force. Since other restrictions and state of emergency have been extended until April 6, the government still needs to decide whether curfew will also remain in place.

Interior Minister Sandis Ģirģens said Wednesday he would call on the Cabinet not to continue with the curfew in order to redirect supervisory resources to control the restrictions during the day.

A similar view was also expressed by the Chief of State Police Normunds Krapsis.
