Harmony plans on exclusion of Rēzekne mayor

Take note – story published 1 year ago

The Board of Harmony party is planning to assess the possible exclusion of Rēzekne Mayor Aleksandrs Bartaševičs from the party after he called for a boycott of its congress, said Regīna Ločmele, co-chair of the “Harmony” Board, in an interview to Latvian Radio on February 2.

It is planned to address all members of Harmony in Latgale within a week before taking the decision. It is currently apparent that Bartaševičs has supporters in the ranks of members, while others will be prepared to stay in the party if Rēzekne's mayor leaves, Ločmele said.

Ločmele said that Bartaševičs might have thought of creating a new party. "But at the moment I have no information on which path Aleksandrs will go," the politician said.

The fact that Rezekne Mayor Aleksandrs Bartaševičs could follow the example of Daugavpils Mayor Andrejs Elksniņš and withdraw from the Harmony Party, was forecast by political scientists.
