Lithuanian PM Ingrida Šimonytė pays a visit to Rīga

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė is in Latvia Friday for a busy day of meetings with officials.

First up is a meeting with President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits, followed by Speaker of the Saeima of Ināra Mūrniece and then laying flowers at the Freedom Monument.

The morning continues with a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš and delegations before a joint press conference with Kariņš around midday.

The afternoon will be taken up with laying flowers and lighting a candle at the Memorial Wall and then giving a series of interviews to Latvian media.

An economist by training, Šimonytė became Lithuanian PM in December 2020, representing the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrat political group. Previously she won plaudits as a very effective Minister of Finance during the years of recovery from the global economic crisis from 2009-2012 and served as a board member of the Lithuanian Central Bank 2013-2016.
