Ministers get a New Year pay rise

Take note – story published 8 years ago

Salaries for ministers, the heads of Saeima groups and committees, parliamentary secretaries, and for the prime minister increased from January 1.

The salaries will increase by between €670 and €780 per month.

The prime minister's salary will be placed on a similar level to what the Saeima speaker makes, ministers will make similar salaries to what Saeima deputy speakers make, while the head of Saeima committees and Saeima groups will make similar salaries to what parliamentary secretaries make.

According to the approved changes, the prime minister will make a salary of €3,771 per month and government ministers will make only slightly less on €3,580 per month, though whether the increases are enough to interest anyone in taking the Prime Minister's job remains to be seen.

Also on January 1 Latvia's minimum monthly wage increased to €370 from €360.
