Saeima approves freezing government salaries

On Monday, December 21, the Saeima supported “freezing” salaries of members of the government.

Thus, it is stipulated that the salaries of parliamentary secretaries, Prime Minister, and ministers will not increase next year and remain at the level of 2020. It shall be determined by the amendments adopted by urgency to the Law on the Remuneration of Officials and Employees of State and Local Government Authorities.

The Saeima said that next year the calculation of the monthly salary of members of the Cabinet and the parliamentary secretaries of ministries will be based on a base salary of EUR 1004 per month.

The amendments will enter into force on 1 January 2021.
