When Kučinskis met Kuchciński

Take note – story published 7 years and 8 months ago

Latvian Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis on February 2 met with Polish parliamentary speaker Marek Kuchciński -- or to give him his Latvianized name, Mareks Kuhciņskis.

The meeting was pleasant, if not particularly notable, involving all the usual expressions of mutual goodwill, but we thought it was worth recording for posterity anyway.

Luckily, the Polish visitor was provided with official transportation throughout his visit, which prevented the embarrassing situation that could have arisen if someone had entered crying: "Taxi for Mr Kucinskis!"

The meeting always had the potential to cause confusion -- so it is perhaps understandable that the government webpage then gave an accout of a meeting between the speaker of the Polish parliament and a mysterious 'M. Mucinskis'.

The mistake was soon corrected.
