A lot has happened during this time. Powers have changed. The world has changed. We have changed too. But one thing does not change. Our ability to achieve great things.
The declaration of independence. The fight for freedom. The awakening. The re-establishment of independence. Latvia in Europe and NATO. Our support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom.
And at all times the Song Festival, when we affirm our belonging to our land and country. When we feel so vividly as Latvians. When we are so much a part of Latvia.
The country is our home. It's not always perfect here. But home is home. It must always be kept in order. Everyone has to do their bit to keep everything together. There is not always enough time and energy for everything. But we try anyway. No one else will do it for us. And we do what we must to overcome all obstacles. Even now, we have to work together and make our Latvia better.
However, it is important that every patriot of Latvia feels at home in heart and mind. Let the gap between those who have much and those who have little shrink. So that we can give each other a helping hand. So that we can not only talk, but also have a conversation. So that everyone can dream and fulfill their dreams.
This year I have visited many counties, cities and parishes in Latvia. Everywhere I see and feel the work of our Latvian people and pride for our country, for our Latvia. They are not afraid to fall, get up and keep going. Yes, there will be falls, there will be mistakes, but together we know that we are a force. This force can overcome the highest wall. The founders of Latvia would be proud of you. And I'm proud, too.
We understand well – the independence of our country must be protected. Enemies try to intimidate us. Let them try! It will not succeed. Our will to stand up for our country is stronger. Our light is stronger than their darkness. Our warm love is stronger than their empty hatred. Our fatherland and freedom are stronger.
Let this conviction inspire us, shaping our future!
