ZZS to wait until election day to choose presidential favorite

The parliamentary faction of the opposition Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) is planning to wait until the presidential election day before expressing its support to one of the three candidates, the party's board member Viktors Valainis told Latvian Radio on May 24.

ZZS will meet with all presidential candidates. The party has already met with the United List's candidate Uldis Pīlēns whole meetings are still to be held with Elīna Pinto and Edgars Rinkēvičs. 

Currently, "ZZS is evaluating all public statements of the candidates", Valainis noted, adding that the faction will only take a decision on support of a candidate on election day.

When asked whether ZZS could become a coalition member after the presidential election, Valainis replied that the current government was "incapacitated" and the government was "not an end to ZZS's own".

ZZS holds 16 of the 100 parliamentary seats.

The presidential election takes place on May 31.
