Romania has decided to resume participation in NATO's Baltic airspace policing mission in 2023.
Latvian President Egils Levits said during a joint press conference he was particularly pleased that Romania has decided to open an embassy in Rīga.

"This decision is important to strengthen our bilateral, economic and political relations. It is planned to open air traffic between Rīga and Bucharest next year," President Levits said.
He also pointed to the fact that earlier this year Rīga hosted a meeting of the Three Seas Initiative (TSI) and that the next summit will be held in Bucharest in 2023.
"This format gives the countries of the region the opportunity to develop common interests, especially in infrastructure, energy, and technology issues, thereby accelerating development in these sectors," Levits said.
For his part, President Iohannis said the decision to open an embassy was "proof of the special importance we attach to the relationship with Latvia, the desire to deepen bilateral cooperation, as well as our coordination within the European Union, NATO, regional and multilateral formats." He also thanked Levits for supporting Romania's aspiration to join the Schengen zone.
