Saturday Night Live pokes fun at Latvian president

Latvia has once again been mentioned in the world of showbiz - the popular American comedy show Saturday Night Live featured Latvian President Egils Levits in the show's famous opening sequence on December 7.

The opening also features several other world leaders at the NATO conference cafeteria, including US President Donald Trump. The show poked fun at all the world leaders, portraying them in the manner of a U.S. high school drama, complete with cliques and "cool" kids.

While the image of the Latvian president was perhaps less than completely flattering, he did at least come off as considerably less of a jerk, jock, dweeb or douchebag than all the other world leaders.

Latvians who shared their thoughts on the internet had mixed feelings, some were happy that Latvia was mentioned on such a popular platform, while others were offended about the content.

President Levits was playing with the popular Japanese kendema toy in the clip, which of course made local kendema fans very happy.

Former Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis was also portrayed on the show in April 2018 alongside Donald Trump and the Estonian and Lithuanian leaders.
