On Thursday, March 11, Members of Parliament elected Juris Jansons for another term as Latvia's Chief Ombudsman.

Jansons was elected with 68 votes over 24.

The other candidates, Welfare Ministry's parliamentary secretary Krišs Lipšāns and lawyer Edgars Zelderis, received 15 and 8 votes respectively.

Jansons, born in 1973, has been Latvia's ombudsman since March 17, 2011. Previously Jansons, a lawyer and economist by education, worked as the head of a health insurance company.

Deputies expressed support for Jansons saying he has paid attention to social injustice issues, discrimination of Latvians in labor market and cases regarding children's rights.
