The changes also clarify that cultural, entertainment, sporting and other recreational facilities shall not commence operations before 08.00 and shall end no later than 23.00.

The Minister of Education and Science is empowered to evaluate the specific circumstances of the emergency and decide on extension of the school year, plus other measures.

The amendments clarify that upon arrival to Latvia all arrivees shall confirm in writing that he / she will take special precautions, including self-isolation, with a few exceptions for transport workers.

Foreigners who were legally staying in the Republic of Latvia until 13 March 2020 and whose legal stay expired after 13 March 2020 may continue to reside in the Republic of Latvia during the emergency without a new residence permit or visa and retaining the right to existing employment.

Saeima deputies also rose to their feet and gave a symbolic round of applause to medical professionals and others battling the spread of COVID-19 on the public's behalf.
