Corruption watchdog checks Latvian Postal service

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has carried out a number of activities at the Latvian Postal service (Latvijas pasts, LP), LETA reported Wednesday.

The KNAB did not provide further information so as to not affect the ongoing investigation. NKAB noted that there are currently no criminal proceedings in which the employees of the company would be represented.

However, Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Management Board of the Latvijas pasts, said that it was the LP board who had addressed the law enforcement authorities with a request to verify some information.

“We have received an alert, we have a duty to verify these reports, and that is what we are doing. We have also sent an additional request to the law enforcement authorities to verify this information,” Vilcāns said.

The company said it should not provide more detailed information to avoid any impact on the investigation.
