The court on Saturday imposed an arrest on a man who allegedly threw fuel into the office of Solvita Vība, head of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, this week. But on Sunday, the court imposed custody on the other two individuals involved - a man and a woman.
The man who was detained by the State Police (VP) on suspicion of throwing the fuel mixture into the office is a Latvian citizen with a drug-related criminal record.
VP chief Armands Ruks previously stated that the other man was a resident of Olaine, who had earlier been tried for material crimes, while the third person involved was a resident of Olaine, who had also previously been on police radar.
The motivation for committing the crime is still being clarified, but one of the main versions is that the offense was committed “based on hatred towards the state, population, freedom, and museum as an object.”
It is now being investigated whether this was an individually motivated crime or whether it also had some “side impact” on perpetrators, including from Russia, so police are cooperating with the State Security Service (VDD) in the investigation.
