Border guards have established that an organized group was actively involved in facilitating illegal migration in the summer of last year. The group reportedly organized and implemented illegal moving of African migrants crossing the Latvian-Belarusian border to Rīga, as well as accommodation in hostels or other temporary places of residence.
Also, for additional payment, the members of the group provided illegal migrants with false French travel documents so that persons could leave Latvia by bus or air traffic. The investigation gathered evidence of supporting the illegal activities of at least 40 migrants.
In the territory of Latvia, the group consisted of two residents of Latvia and a citizen of Côte d' Ivoire. Criminal proceedings against other members of the organized group were isolated in separate records and investigative activities are ongoing, including an active exchange of information with neighboring countries and Europol.
Two persons are in custody.
