Bunga is charged under Article 327, Part 2 of the Criminal Law regarding service forgery. She faces imprisonment for up to one year, temporary imprisonment, probation supervision, community service or a fine, and deprivation of the right to a certain occupation for up to three years.
There is another case pending against Bunga for abuse of office and other offenses.
On December 18, 2017, the Ministry of Education and Science issued an order suspending Bunga, the college principal. The order was issued on the basis of a decision taken by the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) to impose a security measure.
In spring 2018, the State Audit Office (VK), referring to information provided by the KNAB, reported that at the end of 2017, the office had initiated criminal proceedings for abuse of the official position of an employee of Riga 1st Medical College for greedy purposes, as the employee had used several rooms in the dormitory at 39 Tomsona Street in Riga without paying rent for them.
The VK's audit estimated that from January 1 2004 to March 14 2018 she did not pay rent for private use of the premises in the total amount of 48,270 euro.
On July 1 2019, Riga 1st Medical College was reorganized and exists as an agency of the University of Latvia.
