Rīga Central Station a hub for minor crimes

This year, 25 persons declared wanted or missing have been found in Riga's Station Square and 95 administrative offense proceedings have been initiated for various offenses in the vicinity, the State Police said.

In order to ensure and maintain order in the vicinity of Station Square, the State Police and the Riga Municipal Police organize regular patrols and checks on people.

In the first four months of this year, police presence patrols in the area were provided a total of 54 times.

In April, they were present every day, or 30 times, while in January and March, they were present six times each, and in February - 12 times.

In addition to monitoring public order and security, the law enforcement officers also carry out preventive checks involving the Riga Municipal Police, various State Police units from the criminal police, the riot police, and cynologists.

This year, a total of 3,800 persons have been checked and 25 persons declared wanted have been found.

95 administrative offense proceedings have also been initiated for various offenses, such as consumption of alcoholic beverages in a public place, petty hooliganism, and causing minor bodily harm.

Nine criminal proceedings for possession of narcotic drugs have also been initiated. To date, 60.1 grams of various narcotic substances have been seized.

In the past year 2023, a total of 29 preventive checks were carried out, 9,450 persons were checked and 56 wanted persons were found. During the year, 184 administrative offense proceedings were initiated, 12 criminal proceedings for possession of narcotic drugs were initiated and 26.9 grams of narcotic drugs were seized.

The State Police in cooperation with the Riga Municipal Police will continue to carry out patrols and preventive checks in the area to ensure order and reduce disorder.
