State Security Service launches two sanctions violations cases

The State Security Service (VDD) has urged the prosecutor's office to prosecute one person for unlawfully handing over a luxury car to a Russian citizen, the VDD said on September 18.

The person is charged with violating the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU).

Criminal proceedings against the person were initiated by the VDD on April 6, 2023. During the investigation, information was obtained that the person transferred a luxury car to another person in Russia and thus violated an EU Council regulation prohibiting the sale, supply, transfer, or export of luxury goods, directly or indirectly, to any natural or legal person, entity or body in Russia or for use in Russia.

With the initiation of criminal proceedings against that person, VDD had also initiated proceedings for the imposition of a coercive measure on an undertaking represented by that person.

Meanwhile, in another case, VDD has urged the prosecution to prosecute one person for violating EU sanctions against Belarus.

Criminal proceedings against this person were initiated by the VDD on September 28, 2022, and information was gathered during the investigation that the person violated the EU sanctions on imports of iron and steel products into the EU. In particular, the person violated the EU Council Regulation Article's ban on imports of iron and steel products into the EU if they originate in Belarus or are exported from Belarus.

VDD points out that all involved persons are innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures laid down by law.
