The State Revenue Service (VID) has asked for prosecution in a beauty sector business for the so-called “envelope wages”, or unaccounted-for cash payments worth €2.6 million, the VID said March 30.

In March 2023, the VID Tax and Customs Police Office sent criminal proceedings to the Public Prosecutor's Office for Tax and Customs Affairs for the commencement of criminal proceedings against three persons regarding the payment of salaries not showing up in the accounting of a beauty sector company to a substantial extent, without paying the personal income tax and not making mandatory state social insurance contributions.

The VID said that in the summer of 2021, the Service's Tax and Customs Police Office repeatedly caught "envelope wages" in the same company chain. During the pre-trial investigation, it has been established that the company, despite the criminal proceedings previously initiated for identical criminal offenses, has continued to pay employees unaccounted salaries of €2.6 million and avoided paying more than €2 million in taxes.

Criminal proceedings have been launched for violation of the rules on remuneration and tax evasion.
