Alleged murderer of former prosecutor detained

The police have detained the possible murderer of Biruta Loze, a former prosecutor who used to work at the Prosecutor General’s Office department for the investigation of crimes of totalitarian regimes, reported Latvian Radio April 24.

A 1967-born man was detained April 11 and is being kept behind bars; he has no previous criminal record. The police suspect Loze's killer had pecuniary motives. 

Loze's body was found on April 11 after her disappearance on March 13 or 14. Her body, which bore marks of violent struggle, had been buried in the dunes at the Saulkrasti municipality. 

The man faces a life sentence or from ten to twenty years in prison if convicted.
