Murdered lawyer Pāvels Rebenoks, advisor to former Economics Minister Ralfs Nemiro, has been bludgeoned to death, said State Police (VP) September 21.

LSM reported lawyer Rebenoks was found dead at his home in Langstiņi Saturday night. A robbery had also been committed.

State Police Criminal Investigation department chief Armands Ruks said that the murder scene points to a robbery motive but police are investigating also the other main theory, that is, the murder could have been linked to Rebenoks' professional activities.

In the attack, Rebenoks' business partner Ingus Balandins had sustained injuries. Armands Ruks said that, according to Balandins, the murder had been committed by three persons in masks and black clothes. Balandins said they spoke Russian. The attackers had allegedly brutally beaten the victims using their hands and feet, as well as construction boards lying nearby, suggesting they did not have weapons with them.

Ruks said that jewelry and a watch collection had been stolen from the house, possibly other items and money. Investigation continues.
