Meroni was appointed as the custodian of the property during the proceedings. Lembergs has criticized Meroni for influencing companies in Ventspils with property under his custody.
After the removal of Meroni, Lembergs' property will be stored by the State Agency for Security.
Lembergs' case proceedings have reached the finish line, after a decade-long run. Riga Regional Court has been reviewing the case since August 20, 2009, meaning that this week the case celebrates its 11th birthday. Long before that there were lengthy pre-trial legal actions, making it difficult to even pinpoint when the entire saga began. The case was handed over to court in approximately 200 volumes.
The Prosecutor's Office has demanded an eight-year prison sentence, with confiscation of property, and a fine in the amount of 150 minimum monthly wages, or EUR 64,500, for Lembergs who stands accused of a number of serious crimes including bribery and abuse of office.
The prosecutor's office also wants Lembergs' son Anrijs Lembergs to be sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison with confiscation of property, and Lembergs' business partner Ansis Sormulis to seven years in prison, also with confiscation of property.
