The State Police's Office for Combating Serious and Serial Crimes prevented the murder of an entrepreneur during a specially prepared operation, by detaining the suspect – an acquaintance of a victim born in 1992. The suspect is in custody, police said January 18.

At the end of 2022, the State Police received information that the murder of a company owner's was planned. Immediate safety measures were taken to prevent risks to the life and health of the person concerned. It was found that the suspect already knew the victim's place of residence, the daily schedule and movement routes, and the instruments and means of committing the crime were already prepared.

During carefully prepared and sophisticated operational search and investigation activities, confirmation and evidence of the intention was obtained. A man born in 1992 was detained on December 16, while on December 18 he was placed in custody.

The investigation has shown that the commissioning party and the organizer of the killing are an acquaintance of the victim. It is speculated that the motive has been avoiding to pay debt.

The perpetrator is suspected of being prepared for an act of planning a crime for material good (Article 15, paragraph 3, and Article 117, paragraph 9, of the Criminal Law). The investigation continues in close cooperation with the Dienvidlatgale District Prosecutor's Office.
