State Police representative Dmitrijs Homenko said that counterfeiting of a Covid-19 certificate is comparable to the counterfeiting of any other document and explained that people should understand that this document is not the same as a fake entry for an influenza shot, it has more weight and accountability.
Both Homenko and the Head of the Criminal Investigation of the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) Anda Rumjanceva called on medics and people to report cases of attempts of counterfeiting a Covid-19 certificate so that law enforcement authorities can verify whether there is a criminal offence in the case.
The authorities also asked residents to inform law enforcement if they spot discussions online where someone claims to know how to counterfeit Covid-19 certificates or circumvent the procedure for their acquisition
