Latvian National Guard training in Estonia

From December 1 to 3, National Guards from Latvia's Vidzeme region will be training in military exercises hosted by Estonia.

Units of the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade of the National Guard will participate in the international military exercise "Orkaan" organized by the Estonian Kaitseliit National Guards.

Almost 200 soldiers and national guardsmen from the 27th infantry and 22nd combat support battalion of the 2nd Vidzeme brigade of the National Guard will assume the role of enemy forces to put their Estonian counterparts through their paces.

"Orkaan" is one of the largest military exercises organized by the Estonian Volunteer Defense League, which is taking place for the 17th time. National Guard representatives have been participating in these exercises since 2009. The exercise takes place every year in late November or early December, traditionally giving the 27th Infantry Battalion the opportunity to celebrate its founding anniversary by exercising and strengthening its defense capabilities with its allies in Estonia. 

The units of the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade of the National Guard will go to Estonia for training with their military equipment, therefore, on December 1 and 3, there may be temporary traffic restrictions on the route: Cēsis–Limbaži–Tūja–Ainaži–Estonian border. Residents are asked to take an understanding attitude to any minor inconvenience this might cause and to obey traffic regulations.
