NATO STRATCOMCOE dialogue dates announced

The Rīga-based NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (STRATCOMCOE) has announced the dates for its 2024 'Stratcom dialogue' discussions.

A promotional video posted on the Centre's YouTube channel shows footage from last year's event before revealing at the end that this year's event will take place June 5-6. The venue and list of speakers have yet to be confirmed.

"Save the date for this year's Riga StratCom Dialogue that is set to take place on 5 to 6 June 2024 in Riga, Latvia! In a world where geopolitical landscapes shift like sands, the stories we tell and the policies we craft have profound impacts. From the lingering hostilities in Europe and the Middle East to emerging challenges in Asia, these narratives are not just stories; they are the drivers of international perceptions and actions. How these narratives are developing, and their ability to reconcile global splits, becomes a matter of utmost importance," says accompanying text.

"Central to discussions at the "Future of Strategic Communications" conference will be the role of strategic communications in shaping resilient democracies. Can strategic communications act as a lifeline, creating cohesive narratives that strengthen our societies and guide us through these tumultuous times? The task is monumental, involving not only the shaping of public opinion but also the protection of the very centers of gravity of our democracies: the electoral systems. Parallel to these socio-political narratives is the evolving role of journalism in an age where information is ubiquitous yet often misleading. Journalists, traditionally the gatekeepers of truth, now navigate an overwhelming sea of data, where the distinction between fact and fiction becomes increasingly blurred," it is stated.
