Border checks with Latvia and Poland, as well as at Klaipeda seaport and border inspection posts at Vilnius, Kaunas, and Palanga airports will be carried out from Friday at 8:00 until Thursday, July 13, 8:00.
Temporary checkpoints have been established on the main roads connecting Lithuania to Latvia and Poland, reports Lithuanian public media LRT.
The checks will take place at random, and the responsible authorities invite people to prepare documents in time and to be ready for small lines.
Travelers crossing the internal border of the European Union (EU) Member States will have to present a valid travel document, such as an ID card.
Third-country nationals, on the other hand, must present a passport and a visa, if necessary, or other documents permitting entry into the Schengen States, such as a temporary or permanent residence permit.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Interior has announced that, depending on the situation and potential threats, inspections will be carried out at random at any time of the day.
Lithuanian customs officers, as well as Latvian and Polish border guards, will also be involved in EU internal border checks, while the guarding of the external borders with Russia and Belarus will be assisted by Lithuanian armed forces and national guardsmen, as well as the Estonian and Moldovan border guards and additional forces from the EU border agency Frontex.
The NATO summit in Vilnius will take place on July 11 and 12.
