'Solar Eclipse' expected at Ādaži

From April 8 to 19, international military exercises dubbed "Solar Eclipse IV" will be held at the Ādaži military training ground near Rīga.

Solar Eclipse drills are being organized for the fourth time and will be attended by approximately 600 participants from the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces and the National Guard, as well as from the Canada-led NATO battlegroup, plus Austrian and German armed forces.

"The purpose of the training is to improve the mutual cooperation and communication abilities of the training participants, to improve the operations of the fire control center and the combat firing skills of artillery systems," said a release from Latvia's National Armed Forces (NBS).

In parallel with Solar Eclipse IV will be another exciting-sounding exercise called "Demon Gunner", with the aim of "improving skills in artillery combat firing using digital fire control systems."

Members of the public are advised that during the military exercises, there may be temporary road traffic disturbances on the public roads in the vicinity of the Ādaži military training ground, and an understanding attitude would be greatly appreciated.
