Latvia, Lithuania, U.S. to reach 'Baltic Zenith'

From June 10 to 20, international military exercises dubbed "Baltic Zenith 2023" will take place in southern Kurzeme region at the Šķēde military training range and at the Jūrmalciems military aviation training facility, during which soldiers of Latvia, Lithuania and the United States will improve their skills in combat firing at airborne targets.

About 200 participants will take part in the exercise, including soldiers, national guardsmen and civilians from the Air Force, Ground Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, National Guard, Lithuanian Armed Forces and United States National Guard units, a release from the National Armed Forces said June 7.

The aim of the training is to train and professionally prepare specialists in the use of the short-range anti-aircraft missile systems RBS-70, GROM, and AVENGER by conducting practical combat firing exercises at aerial targets.

The long-term development plan of the national armed forces foresees the development of air defense capabilities as one of the priorities.

Consequently the public is advised that from June 10 to 20 from From 12.00 to 24.00, sea and air safety zones will be closed and there will be limited movement along the coastal zone of the Baltic Sea within the boundaries of the Jūrmalciems range. Entry into the area will also be restricted.

The National Armed Forces asks citizens to be understanding about the ongoing exercises and the noise they might generate.
