Latvian state decoration given to Canada's army commander

In gratitude for his significant contribution to the promotion of mutual cooperation between Latvia and Canada in the military field and strengthening the security and defense of Latvia, on May 13, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs presented the Order of Viesturs, First Class, to General Wayne Eyre, Commander of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Eyre has been involved in improving and ensuring the size of Latvia's military capabilities, has actively promoted the development and improvement of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia from the Canadian side, and has encouraged the active involvement of other Member States, the President's Office said. The General has also contributed to advocating conceptual support for Latvia's defense with the Government of Canada.

During the conversation between Rinkēvičs and General Eyre, the President of Latvia thanked Canada for its military presence in Latvia. Rinkēvičs also confirmed Latvia's commitment to ensure full support for the Canadian Armed Forces in Latvia.
