"With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the security situation in our region has rapidly deteriorated. The threat posed by Russia is not only military. The hybrid threat posed by Russia, which complements Russia's conventional military threat, also continues to grow. Therefore, Latvia's task is to strengthen its cyber security, both by improving cyber security management and promoting international cooperation, and by raising public awareness and strengthening the reactibe and active capabilities of institutions," said Minister of Defense Ināra Mūrniece.
Five main directions of action have been defined: improvement of cyber security management; promotion of cyber security and strengthening of resilience; public awareness, education and research; international cooperation and justice in cyberspace; and prevention and combating of cybercrime.
The cyber security strategy has been developed in connection with the current European Union legislation. The National Cyber Security Center (CERT.LV) will form the core of the national cyber security management system together with the Constitution Protection Bureau (SAB) security service.
