On Friday, December 17, the border guard prevented 52 people from crossing the border, 70 on Saturday, and 45 on Sunday.
The figures have been rising since Monday, December 13. The increase in the number of migrants is explained by the decision of the Belarusian authorities to return migrants to their home countries. In the hope of entering the European Union, however, some migrants try to cross the border of Latvia after they have failed to enter Poland and Lithuania.
Since the announcement of the state of emergency on the Latvia-Belarus border August 10, the Border Guard has prevented 3,309 persons from crossing the border.
No persons were detained having crossed the border illegally over the weekend.
445 persons have been detained for illegally crossing the border this year, 295 of which came in the timeframe from August 6 to 10, and 93 of which came after the announcement of the state of emergency. Those people were allowed in citing 'humanitarian reasons'.
