“It is [Wagner] a group of mercenaries who do things for money. If no one pays, they don't do anything specifically,” said Sārts.
After the possible death of the Wagner leaders, as Sārts indicated, "it will be possible that the information will be reduced – the threat of what the Wagner will do or not do, but there will be no difference in practice, there will still be refugee pressure on borders, which Wagner is not responsible for."
Sārts said that Latvia should be preparing for Belarus increasing pressure on the Latvian border. "We can expect different threats or statements, but the purely military threat has not been and will not be there in the near future," said Sārts.
Speaking about the future of the Wagner group, Sārts said that at the moment there were warmongering statements, but they should not be given too much credit, given that “anything can be announced”.
“I must note that the Wagner group is not close to what it was when it came to Moscow. But it is visible that Russia's Kremlin elite is worried about what the Wagner response might be,” said Sārts.
According to Sārts, there will be “excited periods of uncertainty”.
“Whatever the end, it's doing what the rebellion did, it is shaking up the powers of the Kremlin. It's certainly in favor of the Ukrainian fight against Russia,” said Sārts.
